PhD candidate Srijana Shrestha presented her paper, “Control of a Motor-Dynamometer Test Bench for HVAC Load Emulation in Grid Flexibility Research,” at the IEEE Texas Power and Energy Conference (TPEC) in College Town, TX. Her research addresses a critical gap in grid modernization: understanding how variable-speed HVAC systems—used for fast frequency regulation—affect long-term electric machine reliability. She developed a novel, low-cost motor-dynamometer test platform that emulates HVAC dynamics using two coupled induction machines with a coordinated control strategy.
