Paul Moses

Dr Paul Moses received his BS degree in Physics and BEng degree with 1st Class Honours in Electrical and Computer Engineering both in 2006, and the PhD degree in Electrical Power Engineering from Curtin University of Technology, Perth, Western Australia, in 2012. His doctoral thesis was recognized for outstanding achievement by the Chancellor of the University.

From 2007 to 2014, Dr Moses served as an Electrical Engineer for the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG), Australian Department of Defence. He performed naval research and engineering support for combat systems for the Australian Collins Class Submarines at the naval base in Garden Island, Western Australia. Upon finishing his PhD in 2012, Dr Moses accepted a promotion to work for DSTG’s Power and Energy Systems Group in Melbourne, Australia. He has served as a power systems specialist supporting several naval projects. He was in charge of designing and leading the development of one of several high-budget R&D land-based power system test facilities. Dr Moses has been a subject matter expert for leading technical investigations of electrical plant issues in naval vessels. He has advised the Royal Australian Navy on new preventative maintenance procedures and design modifications for protecting multi-megawatt shipboard electrical plant.

In 2014, Dr Moses relocated to the USA to take up an academic position at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia, serving as faculty in the Frank Batten College of Engineering. In 2017, Dr Moses accepted a faculty position at The University of Oklahoma, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, in the Norman, Oklahoma campus. He initiated and continues to lead his research Power Quality & Resilience Laboratory (PQR-Lab). He is an Adjunct Professor for George Washington University, School of Engineering and Applied Science, where he occasionally supports teaching advanced graduate level courses. He is married to his wife, Johanna, who works as a Physician Assistant in the Norman-OKC area. Johanna is also an author and founder/director of a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization; The Ephraim Foundation International (EFI). EFI aims to empower and educate children and families in rural areas of Sri Lanka and beyond. Dr Moses is active in the professional engineering communities and has published several journal and conference articles in his field. In 2023, Dr Moses was awarded the prestigious National Science Foundation CAREER award. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE).
